A multinational-research project on the impact of light pollution asserts that LEDs suppress melatonin levels to a far greater degree than high-pressure-sodium sources, potentially impacting human health.
Unfortunately there is lack of conclusive data on the impact of white light at night. Just how bad is such light for us at night, and how much does it take to adversely impact humans and animals.
But from a health perspective, LEDs are not more harmful than any other source based on daylight-white phosphors.
